Let me introduce you to one of our Team members Ann Marie Vacca. She writes.....

Having someone in my life I can look up to, that I know will guide me in the correct direction is a true blessing. My brother Ernie attended the Guatemala trip two years ago, and he came out a changed person. My brother and I are two completely different people yet are touched by the same values. Ernie inspired me to be a part of this beautiful opportunity, not only to benefit myself but help those who struggle each and every day. From this trip I hope to get a better understanding of what poverty and struggle truly means. In this day and age especially people who live in our community are blessed with so much such as houses, food, clean water, and clothing, unlike places in Central and South America who struggle to get food on the table each night for their family. I hope to truly understand the meaning of poverty by attending this trip so I learn to not take anything I have for granted. Though I am a very organized person and take pride in managing my school work, my job, and playing my music, I put the most important things first, and this trip will be one of my first priorities. In my high school I am involved in the best buddies program, and I take special pride in my relationships with the special needs children. These kids fill my heart every day and by attending this trip I believe my personal and spiritual journey will expand by meeting more children in need of extra love. I have been playing guitar for almost nine years and singing seriously for three years. By sharing these special talents it may bring joy to the kids in Guatemala, because that is my main goal, just to bring happiness to those children. Hopefully I can share what I am passionate about with them. I have traveled several times abroad and experienced different cultures, which is why I am not concerned or fearful about this trip. I have complete trust in God that he will protect us through this trip because he is guiding us follow in his footsteps and make sure these kids are not forgotten. Overall I am so excited to have this opportunity to apply for this experience, and hopeful I will be lucky enough to participate and share my heart with Guatemala.

Profits from this year’s Saint Anthony Feast which Youth Ministry volunteers raised were contributed to the construction of a playground for the children of the primary schoolhouse in the village of Rosario, Guatemala.  The families from the village are so grateful since public funds for such needs are almost non - existent.  A playground outside the school in an area where the children usually play with old car tires propped in the bare ground is the latest project.

Last weekend members of the Youth Ministry along with Confirmation candidates sorted the clothing donations for the children in the Village of Rosario.  After a quick count we determined that there was approximately 1,200 articles of clothing donated!  We are extremely pleased with this result and we know the children will be too.  This clothing drive has been a great success!  A special thanks to the parishioners of all three parishes along with parishioners of Saint Mary Church in Pawtucket and Saint Edward Church in Pawtucket.  Your generosity is overwhelming and the results prove it!  There will be updates to our website with pictures of the sorting process, and eventually as they become available, the children receiving the clothing.  Please visit facebook.com/Angels-on-a-Mission-RI.

"Truely I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest ini the kingdom of heaven.  Whoever welcoimes one such child in my name welcomes me."

Matthew 18:3-5
