Welcome to Saint Anthony

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Advent is a time to recognize the emptiness needs to be filled in our lives, a time to smooth the rough edges of pride, and to make room for Jesus who comes.

PRAYERS REQUESTED FOR BISHOP MULVEE

Your prayers are appreciated for Bishop Robert E. Mulvee, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Providence who has had some serious health problems most recently.  He has been a great bishop and friend to many priests, always    encouraging of new ways of promoting the Gospel.  When the interior of Saint Anthony Church was being renovated in 1998, Bishop Mulvee was instrumental in donating the altars from the former Our Lady of Providence Seminary in Warwick which were refashioned into the present main altar, altar of reservation upon which rests the tabernacle, and the ambo from which God’s Word is proclaimed. Until recent years he always enjoyed celebrating Confirmation at Saint Anthony Church. He is out of the hospital and getting good care at the Cathedral rectory in Providence.  May God grant him a speedy recovery.

HOLY NAME SOCIETY TOY DRIVE

The Holy Name Society will hold its annual toy drive from November 24 - December 16. It would be appreciated if you  could donate a new unwrapped toy and make a needy child happy this Christmas. All toys can be placed in the decorated boxes at the entrances of St. Anthony Church and the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Thank you for your generous support.

HOLY NAME SOCIETY CHRISTMAS GATHERING

The next meeting of the Holy Name Society is scheduled for  December 10th at 6:30pm. The meeting will take place at The Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. All male parishioners of our tri parish community are encouraged and welcome to attend.  See you there!

THE CHURCH OF THE PRESENTATION CHOIR

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CONCERT

The Choir will present their annual Christmas concert on Sunday December 16th, 2018 at 3:00pm at the Church of the Presentation. Reception will immediately follow in the church hall. Donations of holiday baked goods would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued support.

ABBE AVE PRAYER MINISTRY

Founded in November of 2008.  When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, he responded with the words “Abba” to begin the special prayer we use most often.  The Abba-Ave Prayer Ministry is an outreach which stemmed from our devotion to the Blessed Mother therefore it is only fitting to use the Latin word for the beginning of the “Hail Mary”.  The Abba-Ave is an outreach to anyone in spiritual crisis because of life circumstances or just the desire for support in time of need.  Each evening at 9PM our dedicated men and women pray, from the comfort of their homes, the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory be to the Father.  In addition, on the first Tuesday of every month all are welcome to gather in Trinity Chapel at 7PM to pray the rosary. Intention requests are received and held in prayer for 30 days through our phone line at 353-3059.  We invite you to pray along with us each evening at 9PM, prayers do matter.

SPECIAL THANKS TO THE SONS OF ITALY

The annual Christmas Party of the Renaissance-Alliance Lodge of the Sons of Italy was held this past week.  As has been the tradition for many years, the members are asked to bring a new toy for the children of Saint Edward Food & Wellness clients and the residents of Holy Family Home.  Under the leadership of President Joe Calabro, an abundance of beautiful and costly items were donated, along with a $700 donation from additional gifts, and the entire proceeds of a split-the pot raffle to which members and guests generously contributed.  The Sons of Italy is a social organization celebrating the Italian heritage and gathers for a monthly dinner meeting at Lancellotta’s    Restaurant. New members are always welcome. Anyone wishing to join can contact Joe at 729-9017.

Would you like to support Catholic Education?  Would you like to help repair and preserve our Diocesan Cathedral for years to come? These are really the only        questions that you need to asked as you consider making a pledge so that both our parish and Diocese may benefit. The goal for Saint Anthony is $553,140, with pledges so far at $54,790; Presentation’s goal is $289,183, with pledges so far at $60,215; and Saint Edward’s goal is $180, 017 with pledges so far at $154,436. EL ROSARIO GRADUATION

COPING WITH GRIEF AT THE HOLIDAYS

Nothing can compare us for the death of a loved one. Whether death results from a sudden accident or sustained illness, it always catches us off-guard. To help those that have lost a loved one, a workshop will be held on      Monday, December 3, 6:30-8pm at Our Lady of Loreto Church, 346 Waterman Avenue, East Providence. Peter Magnotta, MSW LICSW, from the Office of Life and Family Ministry, will offer positive suggestions to help with the adjustment that must be made during the holiday season. This event is free, but pre-registration is required by November 30 to enable sufficient handouts. To RSVP call Peter at 278-2517.

RESPECT FOR LIFE COMMITTEE

The crowds asked John the Baptist, “What should we do?”  He said to them in reply, “Whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none.  And whoever has food should do likewise.”

-Luke 3:10-11

Thank God, every day, if you have something to share.  Our parish family offers a multitude of ways that each of us can share what we have with our brothers and sisters.

OFFERING AND DONATION CLARIFICATION

When making you weekly offering by check, the check must be made payable to the church on your budget envelope. (Saint Anthony envelopes please make the check Payable to Saint Anthony Church, etc.). Budget envelopes should only contain checks /cash for budget offerings (not ministry donations). Also, please do not use scotch tape or staples on your envelopes or checks.

We appreciate donations to all our ministries; please note when making a donation by check the checks should be written as follows and be placed in a separate envelope marked with the ministry name on it (placed in the collection basket or mailed to the rectory):

Holy Family Home: checks payable to Holy Family Home.

Saint Edward Food and Wellness Center: checks payable to Saint Edward Food and Wellness Center.

Mary’s Meals: checks payable to Church of the Presentation or Presentation Church (note on the memo line Mary’s Meals).

Saint Anthony Kitchen Ministry (hot lunch and mobile ministries): checks payable to Saint Anthony Church (note on the memo line Kitchen or Outreach Ministry).

All offerings, donations and correspondence should be addressed to the rectory office at 5 Gibbs Street, North Providence RI 02904. The physical church buildings do not receive mail.  Mail addressed for example to Saint Anthony Church at 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue or Presentation Church at 1081 Mineral Spring Avenue does not make its way to the rectory office.

ON LINE GIVING REMINDER

For all families who are currently using the online giving program we ask that you log into your account and update any information that has changed since you setup your initial account. This is also a good time to check your statements to see that your offering is being processed as you originally set it up. We have received notification of expired credit cards and invalid email addresses. Also, you should only set up your account once and have your offering deducted from that account; there are a few users who set up a new account each time they make an offering. If you have not signed up for online giving, please consider doing so. Log onto the parish website, stanthonychurch.org, click on the online giving icon, choose the church you are registered at and follow the menu driven screen. The help desk for all online questions is  1-800-348-2886 ext 4.
