Welcome to Saint Anthony

ON THIS DATE IN SAINT ANTHONY HISTORY

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Today more than ever, our societies need “artisans of peace”, messengers and witnesses of God the Father, who wills the good and the happiness of the human family.

-Pope Francis

Dear Parishioners,

I want to share some good news with you about the positive effects of your generous support of our commitment to the primary school in El Rosario, Guatemala. Registrations for the new school year are currently underway and by the third day 55 students had already been registered. These children are very excited to go to school, to learn and to grow as good citizens of their country. The support we have given them in physically improving the school building has made a difference. Moreover, they were just given the new back packs and school supplies we sent last year and are ready to begin. More children will also be coming to the new school year since we have arranged payment for their birth certificates which are needed for enrollment. Next month we will be sending new toys which were left over from our toy distribution in December at St. Edward Food & Wellness Center. Any new school supplies that you are able to donate will be appreciated since they are very expensive in Guatemala and the families are very poor. You can drop them off when you come to Mass or at the rectory.

I ask you to remember Father Nolasco in your prayers as he begins a well deserved annual vacation to visit his family in Colombia. May God bless him with the opportunity for rest and rejuvenation!

May God bless your week.

Father Ed

KEEP THE HEAT ON

Bishop Tobin has kicked-off the Annual Keep the Heat On Challenge, a program that helps struggling families with heating assistance who have exhausted all other public and private means to keep their families warm during the Rhode Island winter. Since 2005, your generous support has provided more than $2.95 million in assistance to more than 13,000 Rhode Island households in need.

If you would like to help local families this winter with a tax-deductible donation, or, if you know of someone in need of heating assistance, please visit www.heatRI.com or call 401/421-7833 for additional information. You can also make a $10 donation by texting the word HEAT to 27722 or a $25 do-nation be texting the word HEATRI to 27722.

ABBE AVE PRAYER MINISTRY

Founded in November of 2008.  When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, he responded with the words “Abba” to begin the special prayer we use most often.  The Abba-Ave Prayer Ministry is an outreach which stemmed from our devotion to the Blessed Mother therefore it is only fitting to use the Latin word for the beginning of the “Hail Mary”.  The Abba-Ave is an outreach to anyone in spiritual crisis because of life circumstances or just the desire for support in time of need.  Each evening at 9PM our dedicated men and women pray, from the comfort of their homes, the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory be to the Father.  In addition, on the first Tuesday of every month all are welcome to gather in Trinity Chapel at 7PM to pray the rosary. Intention requests are received and held in prayer for 30 days through our phone line at 353-3059.  We invite you to pray along with us each evening at 9PM, prayers do matter.

Holy Family Home now proudly displays an original sculpture relief of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. This work of art, created by Saint Anthony parishioner Ed Goodhart, was installed just before Christmas. Ed, a descendent of Brother Andre Bessette of the Congregation of Holy Cross who was canonized a saint in 2010, carved an image of the saint in oak, donating it to Oratory of St. Joseph in Montreal, Canada. Ed was also inspired to create this image of the Holy Family which he diligently worked upon for fourteen months and over 600 hours, completing it ahead of schedule in order to attract onlookers to our mission during the holiday season. The Holy Family was chosen as patrons of our shelter because Mary and Joseph along with the infant Jesus were homeless for a period in their lives, thus identifying with the many women and chil-dren who have found refuge in Holy Family Home for the past three years. We are so grateful to Ed and his wife Diane for this very special gift!

ON LINE GIVING REMINDER

For all families who are currently using the online giving program we ask that you log into your account and update any information that has changed since you setup your initial account. This is also a good time to check your statements to see that your offering is being processed as you originally set it up. We have received notification of expired credit cards and invalid email addresses. Also, you should only set up your account once and have your offering deducted from that account; there are a few users who set up a new account each time they make an offering. If you have not signed up for online giving, please consider doing so. Log onto the parish website, stanthonychurch.org, click on the online giving icon, choose the church you are registered at and follow the menu driven screen. The help desk for all online questions is  1-800-348-2886 ext 4.
