Dear Supporters of Saint Anthony Feast:

I am most grateful for the hard work and generosity to all who helped make our 40th Annual Feast a multi-parish event to benefit the poor and homeless. The increase in income from the Major Donors is to be highlighted this year, even though the outside donor board isn’t completely filled.  Many of you contributed extra this year which came in handy because of the increased expenses. The biggest    expense was police and fire protection which is mandated by law.  The higher figure reflects the reality of the times in which we now live where security is a major priority because of the rash of shootings around the country and the vulnerability of innocent people coming together for a fun social event. We were fortunate that there weren’t any significant disturbances over the four day celebration which was blessed by pleasant weather and increased attendance.  I frequently walked the feast grounds throughout the event and was pleased by what I observed among the attendees.  The sold out Grand Raffle organized by John Baxter and his committee also was a factor in our financial success. Paul Capracotta and his team were great in administering the Pot of Gold Raffle again this year. While vendor income was less, the amusements under the direction of Harold Fera,  brought in additional income. Joe Carbone worked hard soliciting banner donations which were also up this year.  Susan Crocenzi and her volunteers did an excellent job with the Flea Market as well. Mike Murphy and Gian Perrotta also provided excellent leadership to our young people who  were very dedicated to their tasks of providing refreshments. Thanks again to Tony Lanni and the general committee who worked behind the scenes to bring everything together for a successfully executed feast.

God bless your week!

Father Ed

HOLY FAMILY HOME

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION

For those who attended our recent annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner and those who could not, I would again like to thank all of you for your continued dedication and service. If it was not for all of you, we would not be able to       operate, and many of our residents would be living in very dire conditions. You have all generously given your time, your guidance and most importantly, your love and caring to all of the woman and children who reside at Holy Family Home. In many cases, your love and caring may be the first time that some of these woman and children have experienced this, and this has caused them to feel wanted and safe, something very important to everyone.

Please find below a link to the Youtube video that was shown at the dinner. For those who could not attend, this video was produced by Kerry Rubino, who came to the shelter many times in order to meet people that she could interview for this short film documentary of life at Holy Family Home.

Again, on behalf of Fr. Ed and myself, thank you for everything that you do.

Ernie

ATTENTION YOUNG MEN OF HIGH SCHOOL AGE:

“QUO VADIS” SUMMER CAMP: JULY 29-AUGUST 1

Legend tells us that St. Peter asked Jesus “Where are you going?” on the outskirts of Rome.  We know where Jesus went in response to His Father’s will. The Diocese of  Providence Office of Vocations offers this four day opportunity to think about where God is calling you to go?  The location is the Seminary of Our Lady of Providence on Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence. There will be presentations on the priesthood as well as married life and fatherhood along with activities including daily Mass and prayer, recreation (games/sports), witness talks, a challenge course and discussions.  The mission of the camp is threefold: to cultivate friendship, to strengthen faith, and to discover purpose in life.  For more information contact Father Chris Murphy at 331-1316 or register on line at CATHOLICPRIEST.COM or QYDAYS.ORG .

CATHOLIC CHARITY APPEAL IN ACTION

A little over a year ago, a man, who we will call Jose, arrived. He was separated from his family, homeless, hopeless and was suffering from an opiate addiction. After 30 days, he seemed to feel better about himself and started to open up more about his situation. He was able to get off the opiates with an alternative program. He moved to the honor dorm and he started to work. He bought tools he needed, and a vehicle for transportation. One day at work Jose fell off a ladder and broke his ankle, and needed surgery.  Around this time a series of hurricanes struck Puerto Rico where is elderly mother, daughter, and grand daughter live.  Jose postponed his surgery, sold his tools and vehicle and bought a ticket back to Puerto Rico to help rebuild his mothers home. He knew he could not sustain his continuing recovery there and returned back to Emmanuel House to restart his recovery there. Jose knew that he would have support  there and he could have his surgery knowing the staff would help him.  Jose is currently doing well with his recovery from his surgery and addiction. He is grateful for the help he is receiving from Emmanuel House. (God’s House).

ON LINE GIVING REMINDER

For all families who are currently using the online giving program we ask that you log into your account and update any information that has changed since you setup your initial account. This is also a good time to check your statements to see that your offering is being processed as you originally set it up. We have received notification of expired credit cards and invalid email addresses. Also, you should only set up your account once and have your offering deducted from that account; there are a few users who set up a new account each time they make an offering. If you have not signed up for online giving, please consider doing so. Log onto the parish website, stanthonychurch.org, click on the online giving icon, choose the church you are registered at and follow the menu driven screen. The help desk for all online questions is  1-800-348-2886 ext 4.
